Abstract

A trademark of tuberculosis is the ability of the instrumental agent, В Mycobacterium tuberculosis, to persist for decades despite a vigorous host immune response. Previously, we all identified a mycobacterial gene cluster, В mce4, that was specifically necessary for bacterial survival during this long term infection. We have now show thatmce4В encodes a lipid disorders import program that enablesВ M. tuberculosisВ to get both carbon dioxide and strength from this all-pervasive component of number membranes.
